Tips for Searching the Help Center
Entering Search Terms
The ideal search term
is key for finding the information you need. If you are looking for general
information on a subject, start with the obvious. For
example:
- To find all the user guides available with the Reporting collection,
search for "report". The most relevant documents, including the user guides,
are served at the top of the results list.
- If you need help on a PilotScript expression, try searching on the function
name first. For example, search for "rmatch" rather than string functions
if you have a specific function in mind.
- It may be useful to use multiple search terms to narrow down more common
words. For example, when looking for ways to use the date function,
more specific search results are provided with
"date function" than with either "date" or "function".
- Your searches are not case-sensitive.
All letters are viewed as lowercase. For example, "alogp" and "ALogP" return
the same results.
- The search feature ignores common "noise" words
that have no relevance for yielding search results. These are words such as "and", "to", "at", "in", "where", "how",
etc. Some numbers and letters are also ignored because they would slow down
your search and have no impact on improving search results. If a word in
your search phrase is ignored, it is indicated in the search results.
Fine-tuning Search Results with Advanced Search Features
By default, the Help Center looks for documents that contain words in close proximity offering other relevant results besides exact matches. For example, if you search for "Perl API", it
finds documents that contain phrases such as "API for Perl" that
can yield desired results. You can also use the Advanced Search feature and search for documents based on the following word combinations:
- With all of the words: Only find documents that include all words in a search phrase. The "and" separator is not required to search for all words in the search phrase. Word order has no effect on the results. (To further restrict a search, include more words.)
- With the exact phrase: Only find documents that include the exact phrase.
- With at least one of the words: Only find documents that contain related words (synonyms). When using this advanced search feature, type the synonyms in "Look for the words".
Tip: By default, the Help Center finds entire words. You can also use an advanced search feature that allows word variations by searching
for words that start with similar beginnings in any combination.
